The aim of the paper is to analyse public universities in Slovakia in the context of permanent residency of university students related to both internal and external study during the period 2008-2010. Some tendencies were identified and showed that Slovak public universities and their education system have been evened out. The number of universities with their reach across whole Slovakia is decreasing. The percentage of external students is increasing and their attendance area has been extended.
