The city of Košice will become the European Capital of Culture in the year 2013. In the context of that, there have been heated debates on what it brings to the city, how a city copes with such a challenge and how it influences the durability of realised projects. The paper introduces the city of Košice in geographical perspective and focuses on local agents and other decision-making actors who participate in on-going preparation processes for this event.
